Hyderabad, Telangana Feb 11, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Telangana State Committee has strongly urged political parties to immediately stop encouraging unqualified quack doctors for electoral benefits. In a statement, IMA Telangana President Dr. Duvvuru Dwarakanatha Reddy, Secretary Dr. Ashok, and Action Committee Chairman Dr. Ashok Reddy warned that such actions could lead to a severe health crisis in Telangana.
They emphasized that quack doctors are only qualified to provide first aid services and called for an immediate ban on their illegal medical practices to safeguard public health. The IMA strongly opposed any efforts to legitimize these unqualified individuals under the law for political and electoral gains.
The IMA officials highlighted that quacks are operating as self-proclaimed doctors, setting up clinics in villages and towns, and recklessly prescribing excessive doses of steroids and medications to both children and adults, putting their lives at risk. They warned that this dangerous practice is pushing Telangana toward a major health crisis.
They further pointed out that innocent people seeking basic healthcare in rural and urban areas are frequently being exposed to excessive painkillers, antibiotics, and steroids, leading to severe health complications. The IMA stressed that instead of legalizing these unqualified practitioners, the government must take strict measures to stop their activities to protect public health.
The IMA Telangana strongly condemns any political efforts to support and promote quack doctors for electoral benefits. The association urged authorities to take immediate action against such individuals, reminding them that under Section 34 of the National Medical Council (NMC) Act, the practice of medicine by unqualified individuals must be strictly prohibited. Additionally, under Section 54, they must be treated as offenders and face legal consequences.
The IMA Telangana has demanded that both the state government and the National Medical Council take swift action against quack doctors and ensure strict enforcement of the law to prevent further risks to public health.
